Contracts
A rookie-scale extension is the new deal a team signs with a young player before his rookie contract runs out, locking him up a year early instead of risking restricted free agency. Most start at the standard 25% of the cap max.
The Rose Rule is the bonus tier: a player who breaks out fast, with honors like two All-NBA nods or an MVP, can jump to a 30% max while still on his second contract. It is named for Derrick Rose, the first to earn it.
