Terms of Use

Capmath is a free, independent site that explains pro sports salary caps. By using it, you agree to these terms. They're written to be read, not to hide anything.

Effective 2026-06-21.

What Capmath is

Capmath is an informational tool. It models the salary cap from public data and the published rules and explains the result in plain English. It is for understanding and discussion, nothing more. It is not financial, investment, legal, or betting advice, and you should not make money decisions based on it.

The numbers are estimates

Leagues do not publish official team cap figures, and inputs like cap holds and future projections are estimates that reasonable sources read differently. We build every figure the same way, from a stated input, by a rule you can read, and we show that work on the methodology page. But we do not claim our numbers are official or accurate to the dollar. Treat them as a careful, transparent estimate, not a guarantee. If you spot something off, the corrections page is the fastest way to flag it.

Fair use of the site

Read, learn, link to us, and share what you find. Please don't do things that break the site for everyone else, including:

  • Scraping, bulk-downloading, or systematically harvesting our content or data.
  • Hammering the Ask the Cap chat or any endpoint to get around rate limits, or trying to overload the service.
  • Trying to break, probe, or reverse engineer the site, or get around its security.
  • Republishing our content in a way that passes it off as your own or as official league data.

Ask the Cap

The Ask the Cap chat uses an AI model to phrase answers, with the cap numbers pulled live from our engine. AI can still get things wrong or miss context. Answers are informational and carry the same estimate caveat as the rest of the site. Don't enter personal or sensitive information into the chat; see the Privacy Policy.

Names, marks, and data

Capmath is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NBA, the NBPA, or any league or team. Team and player names are used for identification only, and all league, team, and player names and logos are the property of their respective owners. Underlying data comes from third-party providers and public reporting, and remains subject to those owners' rights. The Capmath name, design, and original writing are ours; please don't copy them wholesale.

No warranty

Capmath is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't promise the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate to the dollar, and we may change, pause, or discontinue any part of it at any time.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Capmath and anyone working on it are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or reliance on its numbers. Because the site is free and informational, you use it at your own discretion.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Texas.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; meaningful changes will move the effective date at the top, and continuing to use the site means you accept the new version. Questions are welcome at bobby@capmath.com.
